Ronnie Coleman Biography
One of the greatest bodybuilders of all time, Ronnie Coleman, has 8 olympia wins, along with 25 IFBB professional wins (this is a record that he holds). His list of accomplishments is quite long for only being 45 years old.
He was born in Monroe, Louisiana on May 13, 1964. 1982 is the year he graduated from Bastrop High School and, after that, Grambling State University is where he obtained his B.S. Degree in Accounting. While at this university, he played on the football team, the Grambling State Tigers, and was coached by the famous Eddie Robinson.
Once he had graduated from the university, he then joined the Arlington Police Department in Texas. With respect to staying in shape, he took what he learned from playing football and from being a police officer and proceeded to get into the bodybuilding sport. The owner of Arlington’s Metro Flex Gym, Brian Dobson, is who first introduced Ronnie to competition bodybuilding. Dobson convinced him to compete in the 1990 Mr. Texas bodybuilding contest. Yes, that’s right, he won the heavyweight and overall title at that contest. This was the beginning of his domination of the sport.
He is 5 feet 11 inches tall and weighs around 275 pounds, but his weight varies depending on whether or not it is the offseason. If it is the offseason, then his weight could go up to as much as 330 pounds. His girlfriend, Vickie Gates, an IFBB pro bodybuilder, and him met at a GNC store in 1992. He still lives in Arlington, Texas and continues to work for the police department, but just as a reserve. He is extremely busy with all sorts of things pertaining to being a celebrity.
Some ways that he earns money are from sponsorship, guest posing and, of course, continuing to win bodybuilding contests. He also has narrated some popular bodybuilding videos, namely “The Cost of Redemption”, where he bench presses just about 500 pounds, “The Unbelievable”, which contains what he did in preparation for the 2000 Mr. Olympia, and “On the Road”, that shows what his workouts are like.
In 2001, Texas Governor Rick Perry awarded him the Admiral in the Texas Navy Certificate Award for his superb performances in the promotion of physical fitness and in bodybuilding. The Inner City Games, co-founded by Arnold Schwarzenegger in 1991, is something that Ronnie is also very supportive of. He is very much considered to be the icon of the sport of bodybuilding and is affiliated with Ben and Joe Weider’s IFBB.
Some staggering facts are that his arms measure 24 inches, his chest is 60 inches and, most notably, his legs have a measurement of 36 inches around! He has had, and continues to have, a remarkably successful career in bodybuilding and is the epitamy of what it looks like to be 100 percent in the best shape possible.
Ronnie Coleman is most definitely an icon when it comes to the sport of bodybuilding – one of the greatest bodybuilders of all time for sure.
